CNC Lathe Machines are a type of machine tool where the material or part is held in place and rotated by the main spindle as the cutting tool. (cutting head) moves in and out through a series of parallel cutting tool stations. Milling machines are typically used to process materials such as wood or metal. The material is held against the cutting head by way of a drill, milling cutter, or end mill, and rotated by the main spindle.
These CNC Lathe Machines are able to do precision machining of cylindrical parts, making them perfect for industries like aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, and many others. They can be used to create internal features which can’t be done with traditional lathes. or milling machines. Using CNC Lathe Machines, machinists can create intricate internal features like cylinders, spirals, and even helixes. These lathes can also do surface machining and subtractive work with very little possibility of tool breakage. Machinists use these CNC Lathe Machines to make complicated parts with a high precision.
The machine is the lathe that rotates the workpiece and cuts it by means of a turning operation. The workpiece can be rotated in either direction, but rotation in one direction is more common.
The CNC lathe can be of three types:
1) Turning Lathes
2) Milling Lathes
3) Grinding Lathes
CNC Lathe machines are primarily used for mass-production of many (anywhere from a few hundred to tens of thousands) of identical objects. This becomes an economically viable option for companies only once they produce in the millions, and it's essential that the company be very well-known to be able to do this. .CNC lathes are used for mass production of industrial parts, and are essential in the manufacture of metal castings, parts for airplanes and automobiles. CNC lathes can also be used to cut workpieces out of a variety of materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, plastic and wood. Many types of machine tools use CNC technology but the term generally refers to lathes. The basic difference between a CNC Lathe and a manual Lathe is that the latter is used for turning single pieces of metal or wood, while the former uses some or all of its automated controls to produce identical pieces in large numbers.
